John Hatton spoke on ABC radio Friday 28.
Things he mentioned (as quickly noted by longhand) included:
* there have been threats to some activists
* Local ALP MPs are arrogrant, not answering emails etc – not responding to constitutents
* City needs to get up on its hind legs and do something
* ICAC may be over but people who think that the culture of corruption has changed are wrong. Problems may still remain with senior management.
* he wants the former CEO investigated – what role he took in preventing corrutption and providing a safe working environment. (The ABC presenter made the point that there was no evidence in regard to a need for an investigation of the former WCC GM and he was not present to put his point of view.)
* Mr Hatton has written to the WCC Administrators asking what processes they are putting in place to give free speech to WCC staff so they can speak out as whistleblowers
* open up proceses (of Council) so that people of Wollongong are involved
* train to Sydney on 1 April should be full
* local ALP members need to take action
* Wollongong people to send faxes, email, etc to local ALP MPs getting them to face people at a public meeting
* need for accountable, open and responsive (forms of government)
* similar problems exist at Shoalhaven Council
